You have two options once you have Parts A and B.
Let us help you choose between a Medicare Supplement and a Part D prescription drug plan
… or find out if a Medicare Advantage plan is a better fit for you.
Medicare Supplement plans are standardized and can be used anywhere in the country. Put simply, a Plan G with one company is identical to a Plan G with another company.
Supplements are ideal for those who travel, for instance, as there are no networks or referrals needed. Flexibility is important to many on Medicare and this is the most flexible.
Most people who choose a Medicare Supplement plan also purchase a standalone Part D drug plan. I move my clients from one drug plan to another during the annual enrollment period if there have been changes in the drugs they take, a new pharmacy is preferrred, or the plan cost has changed and we can do better elsewhere.
Medicare Advantage plans are low or no cost, but include a maximum annual out of pocket amount that might have to be met during a poor health year. There are also co-pays and networks to manage.
Drug coverage is often built into these plans and some come with extra benefits such as vision, dental and hearing aid coverage.
